July 19th, 2008 - Wild Weather, makes for a Wild Weekend
Just a quick update from the road. Jake is back with us for the summer so he and Daron hit the road mid-day Monday headed for Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to do some displays for this weekend's Monster Truck Challenge. Daron's truck has a new look for this week with Myrtle Beach's WFXB Fox 43 wanting to push the newly syndicated Family Guy television show on 6 nights a week. The boys started Wednesday morning with a display at Wal-Mart just south of Myrtle Beach with a pretty good turn out of people with a lot of questions about the truck and about the show. Thursday was a fun day with a display at the newly opened Ride Makerz at the Broadway on the Beach. Friday morning the guys met up with the Monster Energy people at yet another Wal-Mart. Friday evening was one of the biggest turn outs as Daron and Jake took the Family Guy truck down town just yards from the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, for Ripley's Believe it or not. All week, every where the truck went, everyone was excited to see it and they were thrilled monster trucks were back in town. It had been over 15 years since monster trucks had graced the greater Myrtle Beach area. Today we got to the track this morning and unloaded King Krunch, got the work done then we made the quick trip over to Awesome Racewear which was just miles from the track and took a well guided tour from the whole family at Awesome Racewear. They showed us the very extensive process of putting together their signature sublimated crew shirts and fire suits which was very exciting. A big thanks to everyone at Awesome Racewear for their generous hospitality.
Check out the Family Guy monster truck!
July 8th, 2008 - From Mountains to Mountains
Well our summer started off kind of slow and we were ready for the shows to hit. With the first quarter behind us and the whole summer in front of us Daron and I hit the road for a summer adventure, our first stop was Salinas, Ca. We got there a couple of days early to set up on display in front of the complex. The fans there are unreal and we enjoyed meeting new fans and the fans we had for years. Sunday was race day and everything was going great. I raced my way into the finals losing to the ever so gracious Tom. Freestyle was where the weekend took a turn. Daron followed his brother in freestyle and thought he could better his brother’s screw up so he hit the same obstacle twice as hard and got twice the air but also wrecked twice as hard. Daron and the new crew guy (Jacob Smallwood) headed to Dan Rodoni’s shop to repair El Matador before the WHR Motorsports Tour. They both busted their tails and got the truck fixed in record time and headed out to Monroe, WA. We hit Monroe with winning on our mind, but my engine had other plans. I ran Rick in Obsession in the semi finals and upon winning the race I broke the crankshaft. I was out for the rest of the weekend. We took the body off of my truck and switched it out with El Matador to fulfill the obligation with WHR. Daron did a great job running Krunch the rest of the weekend. This was the start of a long week for us all. We do our best to break the new guys in right and this week would be no exception. We took off to Spokane, WA to get started on the engine, first we had Jake get the trailer/engine room clean so we could get the engine apart and back together without any extra trash in it. I got on the phone for the first two days trying to gather the parts we needed to get everything back in top shape. With all the parts in on Thursday we had our work cut out for us if we wanted the truck ready for the Friday night race. We worked late into the night and got everything together. We got up bright and early Friday morning, got the engine back in the truck and running by lunch time, what a relief. The rest of the weekend went pretty good. Sunday morning Jake and I got up early to fly out, Jake was heading to Europe and I needed to get some work done at the shop. Daron headed over to Missoula, MO with the rest of the Carney Crew (Rick and Eric with Obsession Racing). We had a good weekend winning some and losing some. There is still one that I haven’t figured out yet, somehow Daron T-Boned me after we finished the racing finals on Saturday night. I guess he was just upset that the old guy whooped up on him. His truck must not have like the contact because it broke a spindle off on the first hit in freestyle. With everything back together and in its place Daron headed back to the shop to get ready for the next phase of the summer.
We changed things up on Daron for once and sent him on a flight instead on me flying. I drove out so my family could go to Benton, MO with me. We got to our display location only to find that it wasn’t large enough to get our rig into. After several phones calls we headed back to the track to set up King Krunch on display at the track. They were going to have Friday night races then the sky opened up, imagine that. Saturday comes and the sky cleared to some great Missouri weather. The race was on. We qualified well and Krunch went to the finals. Then came freestyle Daron went out and laid down a solid run to put him on the board, I came out wanting to show the Missouri fans that we were there for business. I lost to Digger by one point. Sunday was set to be the same, but when we started the trucks to get ready for intros I noticed a noise. We checked everything out and found a broken flexplate. Daron went out and raced into the finals losing to Digger while I had pulled the transmission and replaced the broken part, I got the truck back together in time for freestyle. Daron and I both laid out good passes with Krunch losing by one point to Digger once more. We loaded up and headed back home. It was great to have the family with me on Father’s Day.
Daron and I worked at the shop, with our new CNC Plasma cutter, this machine is awesome. We started to build a new jack and it sure made cutting the brackets and braces easy. We want to thank the guys at www.EZ-Router.com for their support.
With or new jack underway and more races to head to, Daron and I took off to Missouri once more. Our next city was Sedalia, MO for Mega Promotions. We got in late Friday night in time for more rain, but Saturday was nice and sunny. With a great field of trucks, Daron and I ran to a 3rd place finish for Daron and a 2nd place finish for me. The fans got a treat in freestyle with everyone coming out and putting on strong performances. But Bounty ended the show with a demo derby style run. He broke his front wheel off on the third jump but continued his run ramming everything he could. The crowd left happy and that is what it is all about.
As always we want to thank all of our sponsors for their support, without them none of this would be possible.
May 9th, 2008 - New Website Design
We're really excited with the newly remodeled www.kingkrunch.com We hope the site is found to be more user friendly and will give our fans a better insight on what's going on with King Krunch Racing.
1.22.08 - It was cold, but we knew how to heat it up.
It was an extremely cold week in Minneapolis with temps dropping to -13 and below. But the heat was on in the Metrodome. Flame Motorsports came to the HHH to put on a show. With both truck qualifying in the top half on the field and Daron taking the number 2 spot. We had what it would take to win this weekend. David had a solid qualifying run but with Martial Law spinning out in Krunch’s final turn David had to slow up to avoid hitting the other truck. Daron on the other hand had a great run to put him number two just behind T-Maxx. Daron worked his way trough the rounds making his way to the finals. David made in through the first round and into the quarter finals but when he left the line he blew the transmission on the tacky surface taking him out of competition for the remainder on the night. Daron had his race face on and was ready for Carl in the T-maxx, they left on the green and Daron took a slight lead over the Maxxster but in the final turn Daron took it to wide and Carl laid down a perfect turn and took the win. With
David out of the freestyle competition it left it up to Daron to bring one home for the team. El Matador was piloted with precision and purpose with Daron laying down the best run on his career. He hit every obstacle in every direction to put a 28 in the board. His score held for most of the field until Alex Blackwell came out to lay down a great run of his own to get the win. We want to thank all of our sponsors for the support with out them we could not do this.
